Shortly after Barred owl chicks start peeking outside of the nest, they get comfortable moving around the closest branches they have access to. This little chick was adventurous and curious to its surroundings. I was able to get close up to this one on multiple occasions during the seasons I followed this family. I was fortunate enough to see this one fledge and make it to adulthood!

Master Diver - Osprey are truly the masters of diving and catching fish... The morning started out pretty active, there was an average of four or five Osprey usually at a time circling in the air. The winds were perfect this morning so that they were flying towards us when diving, with the light and wind at our backs. The Osprey really put a show, with over 50 dives in less than 2 hours. Their catch rate that morning was about 20% through the breaking waves, changing tide, and heavy winds.

The first hour of life for a hatchling is quite the struggle. Within half an hour of hatching, this snowy plover hatchling was already stumbling around. Parents will call and encourage newborns to walk small distances at a time with many rest breaks. After a couple of rest breaks, the adult snow plover came back to provide protection and comfort.

ITAP of a white-tailed kite Grasslands and savannas are the perfect places to fly a kite and that's exactly where you will find the White-tailed Kite… flying as if it were attached to a kite string. With its body turned toward the wind and wings gently flapping, it hovers above the ground, a behavior that’s so distinctive it’s become known as kiting. White-tailed kites are extremely rare in Florida, as there are very few breeding pairs in the entire state. Finding and photographing these awesome birds was a real treat.

The sun was just starting to rise above the trees, casting a strong light on the foliage behind this burrowing owl. This also happened to be my first time encountering a burrowing owl perched on a natural object.

Looking like it just heard the wildest gossip, a burrowing owl twists its head nearly 180 degrees, eyes wide and pupils blown—when really, it’s just dramatically reacting to the sunrise. Owls have conscious control of their pupil size, unlike humans. They also expand and constrict WAY faster than our pupils, and they work independently of each other so they can have one large pupil and one small pupil at the same time.

This is one of the first landscape photos I ever captured, taken in June 2018 from the Naples Beach & Golf Hotel during one of their unforgettable Summer Jazz concerts. For a brief moment, the sky turned an intense shade of red—so vivid it felt surreal. The entire horizon glowed like a wildfire, and I’ll never forget the way concertgoers rushed to the beach, drawn by the breathtaking sight, eager to capture the spectacle.

Happy Tree Tuesday! Seeing the sun creep through yellow leaved birch trees is a wonderful way to enjoy sunrise. I was so happy to find this beautiful spot for a sun star while walking back to the car after photographing sunrise at Oxbow Bend.

Burrowing owls love to dig down in the sand and dirt to take their baths! Sand baths absorb excess oil to help keep the feathers from becoming too greasy or matted. Taken shortly after sunrise, this young burrowing owlet's pupils were still large from not being exposed to the bright light of day yet.

ITAP of a burrowing owl Burrowing owls seem to give off a wide range of expressions which makes them one of my favorite subjects to photograph. A serious looking burrowing owl caught mid stretch… while standing on one leg. I found the movement to be very impressive and the owl's wing position reminded me of a matador.
