Looking like it just heard the wildest gossip, a burrowing owl twists its head nearly 180 degrees, eyes wide and pupils blown—when really, it’s just dramatically reacting to the sunrise. Owls have conscious control of their pupil size, unlike humans. They also expand and constrict WAY faster than our pupils, and they work independently of each other so they can have one large pupil and one small pupil at the same time.
