Both sides are loudly declaring victory in the Two Day War between India and Pakistan. That’s actually ideal from a deescalation standpoint because the outcome was ambiguous enough to be subject to perception management. Two things seem to be true: 1) On day one the Pakistani Air Force shot down between 3-5 Indian Air Force jets including at least one advanced French Rafale. 2) On day two the Indian military struck major airbases and military facilities causing some scale of damage and killing at least four Pakistani airmen. Pakistan claims to have hit Indian facilities but there is limited evidence of that presently. Pakistan’s major cities and military infrastructure are disproportionately within targeting range of the border. The psychological impact of this cannot be overstated. After this they will probably accelerate the M-1 railway project whose purpose is to create a second line of defense infrastructure further from the border. If it’s possible to have peace both sides should pursue that.
