Professors should inspire. Those that do do it by knowing the subject they are teaching so well that it comes naturally, and are able to bring in real world examples on the fly that answer the question everyone is asking: why am I here? Most profs do not inspire.

Ideally they should. But it’s on the students to learn anyway if they don’t.
