I am an artist. I’ve been literally making art my entire life. I’ve had professional artist mentors since the 3rd grade, and high level professional musical mentors in the arts prior to that. I’m into art actually is my point. I may not get snobby about it but it means something to me; art is the food of my everyday life and has been as long as I can recall, I make it bc I need it IRL. Miss me with the academic conversations and price points; No, I don’t buy into art bc it’s popular with ppl who don’t even speak to me; that’s a play for suckas, and not at all what collectorhood is about. There’s a lot of art here that I feel nothing from looking at—for art to be valued by me: It has to touch me - and the artist, if they aren’t dead, has to also be someone I’ve met on some level, and like - if the piece is to be in my physical space. Period. If I buy a piece and later discover a problem with the artist, the art loses value for me. So, I take my time now before buying anything physical.

On the left, a shot of me and Beeple’s collector wall; on the right, one of my own collector walls - that’s a 55” square self-portrait piece I produced to commemorate the 8’x8’ mural of mine ppl drove past in Detroit for years in the 8mi Project, painted over now, I memorized it for myself in this physical commemorative artwork; also built the frame myself. It was my first public work; early works aging well, still feels good.
