Saying rituals don’t matter, is like saying the taste of food doesn’t matter because it all ends up in your stomach anyway - you are not wrong, but well, you’re missing the message Let me more specific by what I mean when I say ritual:

I think this is also very much a cultural issue. Here in Germany, we are often very sober/ unemotional and don't celebrate important moments enough. Especially the celebration of outstanding achievements (university graduation in particular)

But I think what is interesting is even in the Champions League, the game doesn't end when the referee blows the whistle -- the Cup is really won when the captain holds the Champions League Cup in the air with his teammates and the crowd roars This is undoubtedly a ritual that has taken on meaning in UCL - an action that signifies or makes everyone understand, you have just won the Champions League (both the team, the crowd and the supporters, and everyone else etc)
