In a weird way it’s neither for me. I definitely want to go to space and possibly live out there, but I’m more interested in the future of my kids who may not have a hospitable earth when they get older. I’ve always loved space exploration so there’s some of that in the mix too.

Goalposts (for long term living) would be:
- Ability to simulate night and day 
- Agriculture for not only vegetation but also livestock

I really empathize with this wishful thinking, but must say that I believe the idea of “going to space because we rekt the earth” is a very dangerous one. 

1. We are so so far away from a non-trivial amount of people being able to reach, let alone survive in space. 
2. Hard to imagine we could bootstrap a stable geo system from nothing, when we can’t even sustain the incredible one that was gifted to us. 
3. In order for humanity to expand outward into the galaxy, we need to actually increase the number of planets we inhabit and steward, not just burn through one at a time.

Yeah, currently "Go to space" would be like 100 people 50 years from now.

Unless the technology has wildly advanced and been kept very quiet.
