From the perspective of an engineering manager, what makes you feel like you just had a great one on one with a direct report?

My contrarian take is that most people do too many 1:1s because they use it as a crutch for not spending time doing actual work with the team. Once every month or two is the ideal cadence, and you succeed if they come away feeling more hyped than when they went in.

Thx! Agree about cadence, but given it's happening already: What kind of topics do you find most interesting/valuable to use the time on?

This was my last prompt - I usually send it ahead of time, and then just see where the conversation goes
