New nordic skate skis! Took these out for a spin last night, skating is a whole different beast.

Been meaning to get into cross country skiing! Any protips for an aspiring Ontarian? (Where/how to buy the first set, etc)

Start with classic rather than skate skis. They're easier and more versatile (you can go on skinnier trails). Wherever you go to buy them, make sure they get your weight, and possibly even put you on the skis to ensure they have the right stiffness for you. If you buy used, the binding will need to match between the skis and boots. NNN bindings are the most common, so I'd go with that. Also, waxless skis are pretty good these days so you really don't need waxed skis. Skin skis (they get grip from a velcro-like patch) are especially popular, I haven't tried them, but ppl seem to really like them. It's a great sport, I hope we can keep getting the weather for it for a long time to come.
