Q: What matters most for L2s accruing value back to ETH L1? - Using ETH as a gas token? - Using ETH DA rather than Alt DA? - ETH being used as "money" on the L2 (e.g. for minting NFTs)? - L2 calling itself ETH-aligned ๐Ÿ˜ฌ ? - Something else?

My guess is that the most important thing is ETH as "money," that ETH as gas token is one factor that is upstream of ETH as money, and that ETH DA is upstream of ETH as gas token

ETH as gas token is the most important value alignment ETH exports itself as money

If the L2 actually inherits/rents security from ETH L1, then value would be naturally accruing as it pays for this security, right?

1 & 3 - Gas token and used as "money" onchain. 1000s of L2s/L3s needing to use ETH for gas + >80% of ETH staked is when ETH just goes parabolic. This is the event that the whole Ethereum ecosystem should be aligning behind.

Good question - I think you would accrue value without any of the items you listed since you are paying ETH to settle on L1 and bridging L1 assets. Because of this I would argue attracting more users & building good applications would be the most accretive

accrual back of value to ETH probably just feels like burden, some archaic tax imposed by an ancient ruler
