They definitely need a UX refresh. Metamask always felt clunky and “nerdy” they need to make it more sleek. It’s literally the first impression almost every new web3 user gets

imo metamask is best suited to power users who need reliability and safety over sleekness

personally I direct new users to either rainbow or rabby, they’re a good fit imo

Rainbow doesn’t allow custom networks (basically new chains won’t work until they update the extension) and rabby has no walletconnect. Both are so much better UX than Metamask but they are just not “feature complete”

yes, which is why I suggested rainbow/rabby for new users. they don’t need walletconnect or custom networks.

Do you recommend desktop or mobile wallets?

I think Rainbow mobile is really good, that would be my go-to recommendation.

for desktop I think it boils down to power user vs. beginner. can’t recommend anything other than Metamask to a serious user but for casual use I think Rainbow and Rabby are more friendly and approachable.
