as much as I don't love US gun culture, I also don't feel safe in my home in canada and can't legally own *any* firearm to protect myself or my family. and to add salt to the wound, you also risk prosecution for defending yourself against home invasion or other intruders.

I have so many mixed feelings on guns in the US, but definitely appreciate the right to self defense. With that said there are still lots of caveats in the US and what rights you do have vary from state to state. Some make it your last resort, others justify it if they just step foot on your property.

yeah, definitely a lot of nuance here! in canada you are essentially screwed though: - can’t legally own a firearm - risk persecution for defending yourself - depending where you live, at least 10-20min+ wait for first responders so if you face home invasion—incidence of which is currently rising—you are pretty much guaranteed to be robbed or worse
