Season 2 of Severance reminds me of so many modern movies. Immaculately shot, you can tell the director falls in love with how good things look and these shots, they linger and linger and then an hour has gone by and nothing has really happened.

Cameras getting too good and too easy to use kinda messed things up and you can cover for so many deficiencies with long moody pretty shots and kinda fake like you've got something to say.

not really sure I agree. cinematography has gotten worse since the mid 2000s when the Alexa and other digital cinema cameras were introduced. maybe what you're describing is more a symptom of the streaming platform production model than anything else

it's just gotten a thousand times easier and cheaper to make things look a movie. no film, no steady cams, everything's fixed in post. there's no comparing production value of TV compared to the 90s, 80s or before.

would be true if the last 15 years hadn't produced some of the best cinematic work. Uncut Gems Madeline's Madeline Irishman/Flower Moon Chi-Raq The Look of Silence Nickel Boys Moonrise Kingdom/Asteroid City All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt Goodbye to Language Tree of Life/Knight of Cups An embarrassment of riches.
