Merkle team easily could have built events and polls themselves—instead they chose to give apps like @event distribution directly in the UI. Bullish.

cynical take would be that they're just waiting until later bc they always have the client trump card (eg apple has slowly but surely moved into flashlights, weather, maps, music, etc though these all started out as 3rd party apps)

don't disagree that they're in the driver seat, but hasn't apple allowed more customizability / interoperability, not less? For example you couldn't delete apple's native apps, now you can. They never used to show google meet, telegram, WhatsApp calls in the phone app + natively on lockscreen, now they do.
