questions for irl event organizers (specifically for hackathons): what are some methods to ensure attendance after registration? for insight: working on planning an in-person hackathon — last year we had a large # of signups, but 25% attended.

for farhack we waitlisted everyone first and then personally messaged to ensure they would commit to hacking before accepting. I personally don't usually hack because of the time commitment. obv things take time to build, but for example the sf frames hackathon hosted by @deform was not bad (1 day, 10am to 4pm)

they actually didn’t end up checking people in so it’s hard to know, but it seemed like the turnout was pretty strong! the other lesson there tho is to do it as part of a larger event (like farcon) — so doing something around permissionless makes sense!
