yes, i also have this theory that they thought — 'Dude, we are the absolute leaders in AI worldwide, and so far we've managed for the press not to pay attention to our brutal AI monopoly because it's behind the curtain, let's not f*ckt it up by also being the leaders on something as conspicuous as robots'

I imagine it was harder to monetize than they thought and they didn’t want to get into the manufacturing business (at least back then)
