Hello, friends! I want to share with you a project that inspires me with the strength of its vision. In the last century, small towns and villages were submerged to create a reservoir on the Sheksna River. Water engulfed homes, gardens, roads, and human destinies, but the church of the village of Krokhino has survived. This building endured during Soviet times only because it was used as a lighthouse. They say that history repeats itself in a spiral, and this is probably true. Sixty years ago, an acetylene lamp was lit on the dome of the Krokhino church, ignited by a spark, and its light was amplified by three powerful reflectors. Locals recall that the light from the Krokhino lighthouse was visible as far as the mouth of the Kovzha River – 68 kilometers away! That lighthouse not only ensured the safe navigation but also preserved the church building.

Today's Krokhino "lighthouse" is not a navigational marker, but a symbol of our commitment to preserving heritage. Its light may not be visible from as far away – yet it can be seen much further. It shines through time, destruction, and oblivion. Photos from http://www.krokhino.ru/o_fonde/

Wow! What an amazing story! Thanks for sharing! That the church survived thanks to its new roller beacon is incredible. This story truly shows that history can repeat itself and how important it is to preserve heritage even in the most difficult conditions. 97 $degen
