I would try narrowing down a first interest - say a country, a specific incident, a topic, an area be it political, scientific or what not - it makes if easier to find your first book/podcast and this will lead to the next episode etc.

I really like these two podcasts: https://www.martyrmade.com https://www.dancarlin.com/hardcore-history-series/ Independent and rather unideological thinkers and very engaging.

Eric Hobsbawm's series of books (Age of... ) are quite good, although not very light.

This is very macro but should give you a great overview https://open.substack.com/pub/matthewharris/p/the-future-of-the-world-system?r=298d1j&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post Afterward, read Niall Ferguson. He’s my favorite contemporary historian

Some great but deeper books on modern economic history: - Arrighi, The Long 20th Century (goes back to renaissance) - Hudson, Superimperialism (americas rise to power across 2 world wars and aftermath) If you want more of a story/lighter read, the new Keynes biography “The Price of Peace” covers both wars ++
