Does anyone have any book recommendations for explanations of the foundations of today’s institutions and the harm brought by industrial-era bureaucracy and centralization?

I really enjoy the book The Sovereign Individual because it predicted a LOT of the capabilities we see today. I started reading “Seeing Like A State” by James C. Scott, but I want to read more books that describe some of these foundations as well as where we might be headed.

That sounds very interesting. Have you heard of the book “How I Found Freedom In An Unfree World” by Harry Browne? The title reminds me a lot of that

I think that’s the only book I’ve read specifically about freedom lol. I’m familiar with a lot of the standard self-improvement literature tho. And being free means minimizing the amount of stuff I have to do that I don’t enjoy or find meaningful. Right now I’m working feverishly on extricating myself from a set of circumstances that I realize are imprisoning me.
