In 2015, I decided to study mathematics because my girlfriend was studying it. At the time, I was so caught up in my feelings that I couldn’t see clearly. Adolescence really is a stage you look back on with embarrassment as you grow older. Unsurprisingly, we broke up during the prep year, and I ended up spending four years trapped in a decision I’d made for the wrong reasons. Although I performed well in my studies, I wasn’t the type to curry favor with others. When I attended an interview for a master’s program, I realized the process wasn’t about achievements at all—it was entirely based on connections and favoritism. In that moment, the full weight of my regret about my education hit me. I hated the entire faculty. That day, I decided it would be my last at the university, and I’ve never looked back since.

I chose to study mathematics for similar reasons, but also I wanted it. The sharpness of mathematics and statistical information, numbers have always intrigued me. After graduating, I pursued the area I wanted by taking software development courses. I didn’t go for higher education like PhD because I didn’t want to teach others and didn’t place much importance on academic success. Decisions made in adolescence often aren’t the most successful, but they don’t necessarily determine whether the future decisions will be wrong either. Many people change their path after a certain age. University years, regardless of the department, offer a lot to shape one's world. What’s important is not what was lost during that time, but what was gained. Naturally, you become different from most others.

The department I studied undoubtedly taught me a great deal. I can’t fully describe it in words. Even though I didn’t love it, it was never particularly challenging for me. I had always benefited from making it a habit to understand the logic behind things. Like you, I had also turned to software, and I was really good at it; until someone I considered very close in the professional world made me lose my passion for the field.

I’ve never worked professionally as a software developer anywhere yet. Initially, I wanted to learn frontend, but I found a backend course and started with that instead. Later, I took another backend course to improve myself further. After completing it, I decided that what I really wanted was to learn frontend, so I enrolled in a frontend course at the same place. During this journey, I kept talking to developer friends around me while also starting to teach myself blockchain development. In the future, I’m considering taking courses related to iOS development. In short, since the software world is vast and diverse, I’m trying to find what suits me best. If I had followed what others told me, I’d probably have ended up either as a math teacher or stuck in backend working with C#. But I make my own decisions and strive to do what I love.
