ens chain feels like a mistake tbh doesn’t have an absurd number of transactions or complexity like Uni does could have probably just migrated to Base

Don't know enough but I've heard arguments that it's one of the more logical choices. Not from a sequencer rev pov but from a better ux pov

Or they could have just fronted all transactions on Mainnet? The cost of creating launching your L2 with a SAAS provider + up keep + monthly billing will most likely cost them more than just fronting all users new transactions. They could have also lunched everything on Base, and then do a daily tx on Mainnet to finalize everything (like how most L2's work, but without needing to create one lol)

it’s a desperate attempt i can’t see a reason why you’d need an entire chain to make a poly-mask solution like ENS

Will it really matter if it all becomes interoperable through the superchain though?

there's probably more going to be built on top of ens (like ethereum follow protocol) which might justify a dedicated chain, but not right now ofc.

Maybe they'll make $ENS a gas token? But agree, seems odd.
