but apparently blowing it up with meditation is wrong intention bc that means one is “using” meditation to cover things up and therefore acting out of the suffering and therefore reinforcing associative circuits 🥲 gm

i often think about what it means to meditate and “transcend” the self but leave your ego as-is. i knew a prominent spiritual teacher and author who ended up extremely bipolar and basically killed himself. apparently meditation was making the split worse. was the meditation wrong? or are western spiritual teachings missing something? is therapy necessary or is it reinforcing the ego?

sorry to learn about this.. it’s tricky bc the general directive from Buddhist teachings is decreasing greed, aversion/ill-will, and delusion but one might not know how one is deluded that’s why I personally believe practicing according to 5-8 precepts is a better barometer than meditation these days bc meditation can be used towards or away from delusion, whereas the precepts are what they are and showcase greed/aversion/delusion more straightforwardly
