Only looking at it from a marketing pov. Regardless if it gets banned, or if TT gets unbanned, Rednote became #1 on the App Store by leaning into the irony of bringing people to another Chinese TT replica knowing they’re interacting with Chinese ppl directly, playful on-boarding messaging like “tiktok refugees,” created a welcoming space, showed examples of relatable influencers and taught basic Chinese slang to get everyone to feel like they’re a part of something. It’s not that far off from crypto on-boarding on a global scale where you’re trying to get ppl to learn + use tech that has a bad reputation.
