Using neutral or victim centered language is essential to avoid minimizing the offense or retraumatizing the victim. For example instead of saying “Former footballer accused of assault” it should be “Man accused of sexual assault” making the crime the focal point rather than his past career. Language shapes perception and responsible reporting should prioritize accuracy accountability and respect for survivors.
