So, Google must be experimenting with AI in its search algorithms because they completely changed page 1 results for a bunch of different industries today. I’m talking drastically different search results with more emphasis on academic results and less emphasis on commercial results. Huge change for my industry. Scary stuff!

It depends what you’re searching for.

If you type in “buy xyz widget” you want to buy that thing right? So you’d want to see commercial results - not 12 pages or Wikipedia like results and government reports.

Most of the commercial pages suck though right? Sounds like a good thing.

No. So far it’s providing more to government/propagandized results in my experience.

The AI spam type pages don’t inherently rank well anyway. It requires a a lot of black hat shit behind the scenes. Basically even if it wasn’t AI produced - it’d still rank cause the person who’s behind it is driving it.
