Why Priority mode matters

LLMs make it easy to create more sophisticated spam. Look at the example below. It will only get worse. Programmatic DDoS of attention at scale.

Priority mode by default ensures that only users you follow or with a globally recognized relevance, i.e. Power Badge, will break through.

Isn’t this counterproductive to onboarding new users?

Shouldn’t we want new users to be able to be heard without spending significant time here first?

When I had priority mode on, I was missing so many legitimate humans who were struggling to be heard. I’ve heard from countless people who were ready to give up.

Very fair, & I know it’s challenging to account for.

Maybe the requirements for a power badge can be tweaked or algorithms adjusted to help new accounts. 

I was this close [__] to giving up on FC after my first few weeks here. Just casting to myself. 

I’m not saying that I have the answer, just asking questions.

At the expense of everyone else getting spammed? :)

You have to solve both problems.

Rotating to making new good accounts more discoverable.

I got very lucky with my power badge. Got it early with like 500 followers and very little engagement. I suspect it was because someone big was interacting with my content.

yeah a few friends of mine would feel like they are shadowbanned and just have to either hit it big with some virality or to somehow find their way to a power badge mysteriously. All while asking is it worth it? Am I just Casting out into an empty sea? 

I'm sympathetic to their struggles
