What does job security mean in 2024? With so many people freelancing, doing side hustles, and even working multiple remote jobs, “job security” feels like a whole new concept. Is stability possible in the gig economy? Personally, I’ve found a good balance with a traditional career, gig work, and now Web 3. As my traditional career faces more competition from AI and shifting industries, I want to be sure I’m well positioned to adapt. That’s part of why I spend so much time here! Today, let’s talk about what the future of work looks like and how we can keep up with the ever-increasing pace of change.

In this economy job security seems non-existent. I witnessed my company lay off 10% of the salaried workforce and we’ve been on a hiring freeze for the last year and a half

25 yrs employed! At first job security meant that I made a good enough impression w/ the owner & my immediate supervisor to be kept around during slow times. Then it became the desire to make the company significantly more than they pay me. Now it’s all the above and the ability to make money apart from my main job!

I think you are going to see many companies starting to pay more for loyalty from workers or service will continue to suffer. The pandemic taught people that they are worth more than they were getting paid. people also learned that they can make money from non-traditional means. I definitely don’t see anyone entering the job market now intending to retire from their first or second company. money pays the bills and you can make more job hopping than staying in one place. looking forward to seeing what the future brings and how the job market evolves

I think the only way to feel secure about the future and have real job security is to keep up with the latest changes. Web3 and crypto are huge parts of that shift, and even though I’m a doctor with daily shifts, I’ve made it a priority to learn them. It’s like back in 2000 when learning Word and Office put you ahead of the game. Same thing here. We’ve gotta stack up on as many new skills as possible. If there’s gonna be any real separation, it’ll be skills that set people apart from the rest.

I strongly believe that old school way of getting jobs are crumbling. There are so many people like me who are looking to create a job or income sources that are aligning with our life style rather than us adapting to jobs. Every now or then I'm doing video editing gig and also work at local shows and concerts. My dream is to make this "side hustle" into a full time position for myself. Goal is to have a financial freedom without relying on full time jobs that aren't my business or my interest. Is this too Gen z?? lol To me being here is the way of to that door.

I had a great gig with a company 8 years ago that the owner basically said i could retire there. Fail son took over and made what was a fantastic place to work into a hellscape. Decided to go back on my own. Miss the guaranteed fat paychecks but no pit in my stomach in the morning going into work. Still trying to decide the right balance and if I found another quality place like it was I would take it.

currently i'm work on a company, great plywood production well known on Indonesia. The current world economic conditions, due to the influence of war, have made the business world increasingly difficult, currently there has been a large reduction in the number of workers as a result of this war. I have also started looking for several new jobs, including joining this warpcast. However, later I have to be able to survive this situation and have to be prepared if at any time I will also be dismissed from my job

TBH this topic isn't for me because I never liked jobs that's why I did my LLB (Law Graduation) back in 2018 and started practicing Criminal Law and in 2021 I left that field too and started doing online marketing after that I got to know about /warpcast in march 2024 and now here I'm 🤝

I think the current field of work looks very interesting, but over the past couple of years, automated production and AI have increasingly begun to replace people. On the one hand, this is a plus for dangerous enterprises, where people can get hurt, and robots and technologies don't care. On the other hand, this is a big minus, because an increasing number of enterprises have begun to use automated labor, leaving people unemployed. As for freelancing, it used to be an inconspicuous niche with little competition and few people knew how to get there. Now it is a separate huge economy with a huge number of vacancies and offers, where, again, AI has recently begun to play a huge role. I believe that in order to avoid any significant problems, people should keep up with the development of AI, improve their skills and defend their rights. @maretus.eth

how difficult it is, I think it largely depends on the country, where it is very far to reach technical progress and the implementation of AI

If there was a better job market for what I've spent years in, then I would agree but it's been super hard getting stable work outside of a few gigs that I've had. Even trying to step back into non web3 has been a bit of a nightmare, I've done soo much that it seems I'm all over the place and not just knowledgeable in several positions. Ideally I'd love to just do gigs but they are few and far in between as of right now.

Job security now hinges on staying current with evolving skills and technologies. People who invest in upskilling and reskilling tend to have a competitive edge, making them attractive to multiple employers or clients. I am employed full-time and am continuously expanding my skills to prepare for launching a new business or startup alongside my current role🫡

It starts with benefits; and specifically healthcare. The _mix_ of jobs, gigs, hustles, etc. are irrelevant without benefits.
