Warpcast

Warpcast is giving out $5 each day to the top 100 casters.  

Rewards are given based on the amount of engagement your casts get divided by the number of active followers you have. 

We'll run this experiment through the end of the year to see if it drives people to create more interesting content for Farcaster.

Why I'm excited for this experiment

1. Daily payout in USDC on @base to your existing wallet

2. Algo normalizes followers (we're going to keep adjusting it), so a much wider pool of people will be eligible

3. You don't have to use Warpcast to be eligible; cast from anywhere

Everyone who's all "herp derp, it's only $5" needs to consider the full context. 

This is an experiment. If it works as intended, who's to say that $5 doesn't increase in the future?

The problem isn't that it's $5, free money is free money, the problem is that 100% of the accounts that have won the reward are followed by some combination of the large OG accounts. Meaning, it's the engagement received from those accounts that is creating the winners, meaning no account that isn't followed by them can ever win the rewards. 

That's the problem I see bro.

Some of the accounts on that list are literally brand new to Warpcast though. @thecurioushermit is a great example. Pretty sure she's only been here for a short time and she didn't come here knowing any of the people on her follow list. She's earned those follows by contributing thoughtfully.

While that may be true (she's awesome btw) the follows from the big accounts are there now though, which still leaves my point being true that those accounts are needed to win these rewards. 

Perhaps a system that gives ample opportunity to all accounts could be farmed too easily, I don't know, but every system is always reliant on the top 50+ OG accounts here it seems.

But if anyone who shows up within a month can earn the follows of those 50+ OG accounts, is it really that big of a deal? 

I have also earned the same follows in a fairly short period of time.

I think this can be attributed more to being spammed to death than malice. Just from my small 24k following, I routinely have 200+ notifications if I step away from my phone for even an hour. I can't even imagine how many Ted or DWR has. 

If you persistently add good content and value to conversations, you will eventually be noticed here. It might not happen as quickly as it has for me or someone else, but it does happen. 

And regardless, that's just 2 accounts. There's plenty of others on there. 

Also, again, important to consider the context - this is an experiment - so maybe they do learn that they need to spread out the 'love' to the top 100 or more/etc.

I mean, yes, it is kind of a big deal tbh. 99.99% of people won't get follows from them, so while it's great that you two have, and get engagement from them, it's not even remotely close to the norm. 

Hell, I couldn't even get a single reply from @ted about her poker games lol. 

There is a lot of elitism from the large accounts around here, and the addition of Moxie didn't make matters any better.
