❗️Topic of the Day ❗️ - What daily habits or routines do you believe contribute most to your success? - How do you stay consistent with them? - What small daily actions can you take to bring you closer to /success? This topic was suggested by both @0ffline and @nikomfer.eth. For me, routine is one of the most important parts of achievement. Consciously and deliberately building strong habits can help carry you through the times that you don’t feel like doing “it”. What about you?

A fancy version of “to-do” lists contributes significantly to my productivity. It’s one of the 7 Habits from Stephen Covey’s book. Years ago, I started with a grocery list of things to do. It wasn’t good enough. I prioritized them, but it still wasn’t good enough. Each item had sub-tasks so I needed more visibility. I tried many other versions including using Notes in Microsoft and other productivity apps. To date, I’m using something that an engineer from Toyota created called, KanBan. I use MS Excel and each tab at the bottom of the worksheet is a separate active project. Inside each tab is a list of prioritized sub-tasks that have due dates, ownership, notes, comments, etc. I used macros to filter the ones coming due and that becomes my to-do list for each day. Importantly, what goes into the KanBan must be specific and clear and not too “big”. If it’s too big, it needs to be broken into smaller pieces. Another thing I try to do is meditate so I’m more focused.

My favorite routing is a 5km walk everyday. I unfortunately need to quit during summer heat but I’m going to start doing again with the low temperatures. Bring my camera with me and everything I produced in the years comes from it. 5km walk + camera Photographers understand 😉

I start my days off with 5 minutes of focussed breathing. Then follow that up with looking at my work schedule to see if anything changed. And then get my kids and either make or go grab coffee.

One small thing I do is I never snooze my alarm during the week. When it goes off I get up immediately, no laying in bed looking at my phone either. Feel like it’s a jump start on the day.

1. Before you end your day, write down what you did that day 2. The way to always be right is to correct yourself whenever you are wrong

I feel so guilty on this topic because I am inconsistent in my good habits. Being here in /success and reading how everyone is really grinding is part of my daily routine now to motivate myself that I too should actually get to work on my projects and not let opportunities pass me by.

I'm not a big fan of routines, but there are two that I don't miss even if I'm bleeding to death. * The first is a nice walk with my dog before breakfast. The rest I share with my partner, but the first one is mine. Walking and having the sun on my face is much better than a cup of coffee. In my good friend's 12 years I haven't missed once, not even when I had covid for the first time and I was burning at 39ºC. * The second is to read for a while every day (a book), which I have rarely missed in decades.

I agree. Since change is the only thing you can count on, following a routine every day is the foundation to success because it provides structure and a reason to face the day in uncertain times. When life is going well, it's easy to maintain a natural momentum created by the built-in demands of what you do: Working, hobbies, having a social life etc. Unexpectedly losing a job or important relationship or any sudden change can throw your life into upheaval and leave you feeling destabilized to say the least. If you have established a daily routine, you will at least have something to help guide you through rough waters when you suddenly find yourself in unfamiliar territory. I once heard someone say "The things you do every day will make or break you". I think the specifics of those "things" are important as well but on a basic level, just having a daily routine can be the thing that makes a difference.

A habit that’s helped me a lot in relationships is just being mindful of the person’s perspective. For example someone may seem angry or frustrated and they take it out on you. Start with an understanding of where they’re coming from or what they might have been going through recently

Time in the garden contributes most to my success. Without it my mind doesn't get the break to declutter and digest. Whenever I'm feeling like there's too much going on I just step away to the garden. Sometimes I sit. Sometimes I garden. The small action I've started taking is doing a little exercise, whenever. Bored, do crunches, need to burn stress, rows, etc.
