I am starting to agree. Not necessarily because of the alt-right take, but because I'm sick of seeing Pepe's in every other cast. They are funny once in awhile. They get old when it's all you see.

I can admit its fun but gets old, but the truth (and point I'm making) is a small community reclaiming a meme does not mean they've changed its significance to those outside of the community. I onboarded a person to FC this year and their immediate reaction was "is this some alt right thing? theres pepes everywhere?"

Wow, that's really interesting and unfortunate to hear. My first real experience with Pepe was here. I agree with your point. I've actually been considering adding a 'no pepe rule' to the success channel just because I'm tired of how much they proliferate in low effort casts.
