tbh having only started companies and not worked at a place with great engineers and culture, I kinda regret not having that network to hire from later, and not having the mental benchmarks from seeing a really great organization operate from the inside

Do you think your rate of - or level of - success has been negatively impacted by the lack of that experience?

negatively - learning from others vs figuring it out yourself is much faster, and early in your career fast feedback loops are important. Also if you worked google or similar its a more valuable credential than founder of X where noone has probably heard of X since theyre not in your market and you didnt unicorn.
