Basketball as a sport is so impacted by individual superstars, it’s kind of crazy. Wemby carrying France to the Olympic final is a good recent example, but I also remember a Freakonomics podcast where they talked about the impact of S-tier players on team performance across different sports and bball was number one IIRC (because stars can play the whole game and potentially impact almost every single play.) Hockey had the lowest correlation by comparison, because it is a shift sport.
