Yes. Virtue is good because itโ€™s decentralized self-control. The more virtuous the society, the more self-disciplined, the less need for centralized law enforcement, rules, and punishment in general. Virtue is why we can have nice things.

in both India and Japan, there is a deep cultural expectation that individuals act virtuously Dharma and Gimu (respectively) can be superficially translated as duty, but are much more fundamental to oneโ€™s life than merely an obligation
