i think everyone would benefit from understanding "novelty search" it's breaking my brain the insight is to abandon setting objectives and instead do what's different/novel/interesting.

ex: maybe you have an ambitious objective of getting very rich. so as time passes, you do things, measure things, and make changes that get you closer to this objective. but there's a problem. it doesn't work. why? because it's easy to deceive yourself. how? by using "richness" as a filter for your behaviour. by using "getting rich" to guide your decisions. if you do that, it's unlikely you'll be making any ethical progress towards that end. alternatively... you can just follow what is interesting to you at the time. be flexible and open to following different threads. noticing what is just emerging into the world, what you can combine and remove, and following what is novel. each novelty you come across spawns more novelties. novelties that you can synthesize into new futures/products/worlds.
