One misconception I see about spam labeling: "I'm a real human. I'm not a bot." Claiming "I'm not a bot" doesn't change the quality of your content. If you're farming replies and not being thoughtful, that's spam. And saying "Oh, I was just hoping to make some money, I'll do better in the future" doesn't work. Because every spammer will say the same thing. It's not hard to not be spammy. Just cast a little less, be a little more thoughtful.

I generally agree with this approach. In the last few months I'm seeing less and less spam, so I guess it works. Is there any list of spammers/spammy casts so that people can learn what types of activities are not welcome?

E.g., Lobster has this moderation log that helps people understand what types of posts aren't welcome https://lobste.rs/moderations
