One misconception I see about spam labeling: "I'm a real human. I'm not a bot." Claiming "I'm not a bot" doesn't change the quality of your content. If you're farming replies and not being thoughtful, that's spam. And saying "Oh, I was just hoping to make some money, I'll do better in the future" doesn't work. Because every spammer will say the same thing. It's not hard to not be spammy. Just cast a little less, be a little more thoughtful.

imagining onboarding new users who have to figure out how the app works and then next thing they know, they’re in spam, shouldn’t there be provisions against that?

Eradicated greed can’t go away by “casting less” imho. If they all say the same thing (oh, I was just hoping to make some money..) , it’s not about quality, it’s a bunch of greedy mfers trying to be smarter. Guess what? They’ll never change, spam or not. “Fear and greed are potent motivators. When both of these forces push in the same direction, virtually no human being can resist.” A. Weil

Coming from a SM world where shadow bans are common for reasons that are unclear to end users it’s reasonable for us to be concerned.

My audience for /sands-of-sumaii are end users/consumers, not people with large followings. Specifically those who tend to live in /replyguys. I know many people in that channel are labelled as spam. How would you suggest engaging with other accounts with little/no following without being labelled spam by association? I do not have the luxury of a large following, so I'm in the trenches replying like Mr. Gary Vee recommends. This means I'm casting a ton each day and a decent amount of it might be deemed lower quality and less intellectual.

we are currently testing a feature that enables a "group chat" experience within the cast that announces when someone starts streaming would that be considered spam if there are many comments between users within that cast? not trying to game the system here, just trying to build on what already exists

I’ve really come around to your way of thinking on this lately. You aren’t entitled to someone else’s attention and if you’re repeatedly abusing the privilege FC offers you to get it, you’ll lose it. Seems fair enough to me. 🤷🏻‍♂️

it's interesting to me that the line between human / spam / bot is getting so fuzzy farcaster has come a long way from wowow to where it is today irt spam for me, from friendlies small spam-like replies are a nice thing, but when it's just from the crowd it feels completely different in the crowd context, it's necessary today to not sound like a bot else risk the classification i think it's hard tho for a lot of people because in many on social situations spammy replies is allowed, but in the parasocial context it's tiresome so besides the bots, the farmers, there is also the parasocial element imho

I generally agree with this approach. In the last few months I'm seeing less and less spam, so I guess it works. Is there any list of spammers/spammy casts so that people can learn what types of activities are not welcome?
