The longer I use ChatGPT for coding, the less impressed I am with its capabilities. It's super useful ofc, but I'm surprised by the number of bugs it overlooks in even simple scripts.

But how could it be perfect if it learned on our code 😂

I was thinking earlier this week “I think chatGPT / Copilot are sharpening my code review skills”, hah

I share the sentiment, I wouldn’t trust the code it produces but it gives me guidance to dive deeper for things I don’t domain. I.e. I used it extensively this week to know what types and indexes I should use in a table. I didn’t end up using the ones it suggested, but helped me understand how they worked.

I love its confidence, though. "Here's an impossible and plainly incorrect thing. It's 100% true, I promise." That's not true. "I'm so sorry! I've corrected that misstatement. Here's a lot more bullshit!"

It also depends heavily on the language/packages/libraries you're asking it to use. (Which is exactly what you would expect for any ML/AI model—when training, quantity has a quality all its own.) Python? Pretty damn good. p5.js? Ugh. Good luck if you're trying to do anything that's not out of a tutorial.

Lately, i use it to think through problems. and then if i ask it to write the code, it's way less buggy.
