I knew I've come across their designer before, they are not just as active as the engineers.

“someone who can think through the fundamental building blocks of [insert field]…and is savvy enough to visualize those components”

being able to quickly comprehend multiple levels of problem, existing infra, and solutions and then explain it clearly is a highly undervalued skill — at least in my area of design 

we define ourselves (and value others) by the final design, maybe even the process to guide a client to a design, but it’s only the most superficial layer of a project.
