used to strongly believe the later, but am increasingly sympathetic to the former

curious to hear from @betashop.eth  and @dwr.eth as their respective strategies seem to embody these two poles

I'm in the middle.

And the best way, from my experience, is to have a strong online presence, which makes it super easy to meet people at conferences. So if you're having a podcast, blog or are just an active Twitter/FC users, you can get 10X more out of the conference than as an anon attendee.
