Why aren't you "marketing" to increase the number of "creators" to increase supply of interesting and entertaining content?

- Marketing is something you do when you have a clear, repeatable value prop; it's a post-product market fit behavior

- Sales is what you do when you haven't figured out the repeatable process and requires a lot of talking to users, product iteration; if you don't have a repeatable sales process, this cannot be outsourced beyond the startup's founders

as someone who straight up asked @dwr.eth for a job once and regularly gets tagged in “hire ted” casts or DCs

i’m 10000% aligned with his take on focusing on product and not marketing for growth

in fact, my POV is that it would be dumb AF to hire a marketing team right now

what would they do? what would i do?

I'm pretty sure the common form would be like a low-key, as-close-to-public third place where good faith dialogue can be initiated w/ no transactional stakes. and somewhere along the line, word of mouth marketing which rules everything around us would take over, and there would be a third place conditioned for successive cohorts of onboarders.

not sure why there's such full-throated disagreement about something  as common as this. is there something offensive in how these "outer-curated" social subnetworks assimilate?

I thought the farwalk turned out amazing, and it felt really inspirational.

maybe I'm not seeing the marketing hire as starkly as you or Dan. my impression has always been that it would capitalized by Farcaster, not Merkle. nevertheless, these ideas as much as our continued distribution depend on a concentrated say-so, and it's not a crazy embellishment for me to claim that Dan's noncommittal assent/blessing could mean the difference for unpaid, organic WOM being effective & sustainable in one direction.

personally, I think the farwalk is so good it should be iterated, I think there's signs that doing it in certain places would make good news/WOM, and let's be blunt, the network just flexed it can purchase a car for someone & can lock millions of $, so something even more low-key not even happening regularly is...well, it gives me doubts about the sentiment.

and I don't need to tell you about how much "low" sentiment we've actively plowed through, as a community. is there something that can ease this?

dumb AF is a business sense :) i can be cutthroat about efficiency (feature, not a bug)

i agree with you wholeheartedly about FC being a digital third place AND i don’t think there needs to be a marketing hire in order to grow via WOM (which typically works bc it is organic, unpaid marketing)
