3 unfortunately, either way is a losing battle. if social media algos continue to be attention-maximizing, they will catalyze societal stability. otoh, outright banning of platforms will be precedent for more sweeping censorship. we shouldn't be confident about the form of social media longterm, origin will change.

for those suggesting 1, I'm asking the devil's advocate followup: how will the authority that bans these know the difference between domestically-sourced dissent that's foreign-amplified & foreign-sourced provocation that's domestically-appreciated? is tiktok fair game b/c of a particular partisan support?
