Reminder that SMS 2FA *will* get you hacked if your account is even mildly valuable. Elon should have just left it dead, but I think he was trying to spice up his Twitter Blue numbers. He wasn't trying to jack up prices, he was trying to kill a horrifically insecure feature.

imho, permissions need to be broken down much further. a flat minimum definitely provides some degree of sybil resistance and educates users to not unconditionally trust bluechecks after the fact, but there should be other color-coded checks that are more oriented to proof & nature of impact. the overall account should be the aggregate of an overwhelming quantity of exclusive proofs (social recovery being the most paramount).

and it was even less free before, one had to pay for a prestigious degree in mass media comms or otherwise already have a public following. horrifically insecure and a participation trophy, in retrospect.
