Since Spam labels are now public, I’ve spent some time looking at things these accounts have in common vs accounts that don’t get labeled and this is my initial advice for people who’ve been labeled. 

1. STOP sharing frames. If you didn’t build it, don’t share it. 
2. Stop recasting. Instead, quote cast and spell out why you are sharing it. What makes this worthy of being shared?
3. Ensure 80% of your timeline is original content. Don’t steal it from the web, make something unique and genuine. It better to not cast at all than to cast slop. 
4. Only reply to people in channels. If someone casts to their home feed and doesn’t follow you, don’t comment. 
5. Stop tagging people. They don’t get notified of the tags anyway. It’s pointless to tag them.

#4 on this list is staring at me right down the barrel! 

@pichi has sorted through hundreds of accounts actions and shared with us a jumping off point on “non spammy” behavior

I am so guilty of going to the trending tab and seeing if anything is there that I can talk on and I’ll put in my 2c—I plan to curb this immediately if the posts are just in the home feed and not a channel

I do this constantly to try to expand and make new friends, I’ll need to pay more attention to where the original cast is!!
