Oh, that’s a great idea. Sadly, the race is timed so that they start dismantling and opening the roads to traffic right after the half marathon finishes.

Runners, what would you do? A friend of mine is running his first half marathon and asked me to join. Of course, I said yes! But now I'm torn—I'm much faster than him (weird flex, but true). 😅 Should I go for a new PR since I feel up for it, or should I pace him and support him instead?

It depends on what you want. When you start running and are initially trying to cover a certain distance, it doesn't matter if your heart rate is 10 bpm higher or lower. What matters is how long you can keep going. The best way to improve this is by running regularly, maintaining good nutrition, getting enough sleep, and allowing your joints enough time to adjust to the increased load. As you progress and aim to improve your 10k time, training in specific heart rate zones becomes more important.
