North York near Toronto is a genuine Ballardian nightmare exurb. Even an apologist for such landscapes like me has to admit it's bleak af. Flat concrete plazas with crap budget restaurants, lots of office high rises (weirdly unnecessary since there seems to be plenty of land and no reason to go up)
