I agree with this. However, in the US, the left used to hold the view: “I do not agree with what you say, but I defend your right to say it.”

It was a tenant of the left that free speech is critical to a free society.

Free speech mustn’t be absolute to be important and worth fighting for.

I would generally say left still agrees with this but may not feel like it because the minority of people who don’t are much louder

Neo Nazi’s are still allowed to practice ofc but is it unamerican to collectively decide who should be allowed to publicly parade around our communit

I’d love to think so. But for example, I don’t know many that would agree with me that the right of neo-nazis to parade must be protected.
