And interestingly, the President of DR Congo has written a letter to the US to say that he’d be happy to sign a minerals deal. Definitively unrelated to the fact that those mineral deposits are currently largely under the control of rebel groups…

I think this mineral deal is a fake and it's all about an excuse for further financial support. Trump needs to end this conflict as soon as possible, so he needs to force Ukraine into a ceasefire and probably other concessions. no deal = no support.
