The right way to think of Ghibli-fication and AI art ‘in the style of X’ is fanfiction. 

Nobody can stop fanfiction. Writing is available to everyone. Image generation is now ubiquitous too. 

It’s easy to distinguish fan fic from the real thing. Nobody mixes up JK Rowlings work from fan fics, which have nonetheless sustained the Harry Potter fandom. Blockchain makes this even easier. 

Some fan fics generate real money! But this hasn’t destroyed the writing industry. I’m sure someone will make a Ghibli-style film that makes money too. 

Fan fiction is a harmless benign feature of this world which sustains communities and is a foundation for creativity. AI art for the masses will be the same.
