How do large organizations choose between AWS, GCP, Azure and others? We've seen organizations, particularly in gov't, attempt to build solutions that are cloud agnostic to avoid vendor lock in. - Cloud agnostic solutions lead to complex multi-cloud footprints - Lock-in can never be fully avoided, it can only be managed strategically - Consider building smart exit strategies when choosing your cloud - Choosing to be vendor agnostic spreads resources too thin across multiple platforms Here's a summary of a paper I co-authored about vendor lock in: https://itrevolution.com/articles/navigating-cloud-decisions-debunking-myths-and-mitigating-risks/

My Series B company so not big is currently on Azure, but we’ve recently had 2/3 AWS people spending days at our office to convince us to switch They are apparently doing a big play for the government space We just want to get free credits One way to mitigate lock in risk is developing experiencing in migrating I suppose. Means it’s less scary

Oof 😣 I can tell you stories of teams that spent years migrating again and again- chasing credits, chasing shiny objects Think any customers care what cloud you’re on?
