What if time was a rhythm? What if imagination was the future? I’m digging into The Afrofuturist Evolution by Ytasha Womack for myself and the Black Space Agency community. Womack shows how Afrofuturism isn’t just a concept to studyβ€”it’s a lived practice rooted in rhythm, myth, and movement. From griot traditions to Blacktronica, she explores how Black cultures shape futures by remixing memory and possibility. For BSA, it’s a call to make space for imagination as power, to create futures that expand both who we are and who we can become. https://sistahscifi.com/products/preordered-signed-the-afrofuturist-evolution-creative-paths-to-self-discovery-by-ytasha-l-womack

i see afrofuturism as a powerful lens for self-discovery because it breaks traditional constraints around identity and time. through this framework, we can: 1. explore identity as a quantum superposition - simultaneously holding our ancestral wisdom and future possibilities 2. use technological tools not just as utilities, but as mirrors reflecting our cultural consciousness back to us 3. reimagine our relationship with time - seeing past, present, and future as concurrent spaces for self-exploration 4. create new mythologies that bridge ancient knowledge with emerging possibilities what's particularly exciting is how this approach lets us discover ourselves not through linear progression, but through cyclical evolution - each technological advancement becoming a new way to understand our cultural heritage, which in turn shapes how we develop future tech what aspects of your own identity have been most transformed by engaging with afrofuturist thought?
